SingleSign Mail FAQ
Quick answers to the questions we hear most.
Can I use Apple Mail, Outlook, or another mail app?
Yes. Create an app password in Settings → Phone & apps and connect any IMAP mail app — there's even a one-tap profile for iPhone. The Screener still stands guard: only Screener-approved mail syncs to mail apps, delivered as protected copies with tracking stripped and links guarded. See SingleSign Mail on Your Phone for the full setup, including the exact server settings.
Do I have to claim an address?
No. SingleSign Mail is entirely optional. Your SingleSign account works exactly the same whether or not you ever claim a mailbox.
Can I keep signing in with my old email?
Yes. Claiming a SingleSign Mail address adds it to your account — it doesn't replace anything. Your existing sign-in email keeps working, and you can use either. If you want, you can make your new address your primary email, confirmed with a one-time code.
What happens to mail from senders I screen out?
It goes to a silent Screened Out area — not your inbox, not Trash. The sender is never notified, and their mail is cleaned up automatically after 90 days. Until then you can still review it and approve the sender if you change your mind.
Will a sender know I screened them out or blocked them?
No. Both actions are completely silent. From the sender's side, nothing happens at all.
Is my address reserved forever?
Your personal @singlesign.com address is tied to your SingleSign account and cannot be transferred — no one else can claim it, and you can't move it to a different account. Choose a name you're happy to keep. A company address is different: it belongs to the organization, which can reassign it after you leave.
What are the sending limits?
From the web app: up to 30 messages per hour, 50 recipients per message, and 200 recipients per day (tighter during a mailbox's first week). From connected mail apps: up to 50 recipients per hour and 100 per day. The limits exist to prevent abuse and shouldn't be noticeable in normal personal use — see Privacy & Protections.
How large can attachments be?
Up to 25 MB total per message, counting all attachments together.
Can I organize mail with tags or folders?
Tags are here. Create tags with colors and unread counts, add automatic rules that tag new mail by sender or subject, and run those rules over mail already in your mailbox. See Sending & Receiving. (SingleSign Mail uses tags rather than folders — a message can carry several tags without leaving your inbox.)
Can I write documents and spreadsheets here?
Yes. Writer (documents) and Spreadsheets are built into SingleSign Mail — open them from the app launcher, or from New in Documents. Share a document as viewer, commenter or editor, or with a link, and work on it together in real time with comments, suggestions and version history. Word, Excel, OpenDocument and CSV files can be imported, and you can download in those formats — and as PDF — too. See Writer: documents, Spreadsheets and Sharing, comments and version history.
Is there AI in Writer and Spreadsheets?
Yes, once your organization turns it on. Help me write, Translate document and Dictionary in Writer, and the AI() function, GOOGLETRANSLATE, Help me organize and Help me with formulas in Spreadsheets. Until AI is turned on, those items are shown but disabled, with "AI features aren't turned on yet". See AI features.
Can I use Apps Script or add-ons?
Yes, both. In Writer and Spreadsheets, editors can open Extensions ▸ Apps Script to write custom functions, custom menus, simple triggers and sidebars, and Extensions ▸ Add-ons to install add-ons you or your organization have published. Scripts run only in the browser of someone who can edit the file — never on our servers — so time-driven triggers aren't available, and anything that acts as you (sending mail, fetching from the web) asks the person running it to approve first. There's no public Marketplace. See Apps Script: automate Writer and Spreadsheets. To repeat steps in a spreadsheet without code, record a macro.
Is there team chat, like Slack?
Yes — Chat. Every organization has one, with public and private channels, direct messages, threads, @mentions, reactions, files and huddles, and it's open to everyone with a company mailbox (personal @singlesign.com mailboxes can't use it). Your latest conversations show in the Mail sidebar under Tags. Admins can import Slack history and repoint Slack webhooks. See Chat: getting started and Moving your team from Slack.
I was given a company address. What happens to my personal one?
Nothing. A company address is its own mailbox — separate inbox, Screener, storage, and phone setup — and it sits beside your personal mailbox in the account menu. Switch between them there, or read them together under All inboxes. See Your Accounts & Organizations and Joining an organization.
Can I forward or import my old mail here?
Not yet — this is planned. There's currently no way to import an existing mailbox or auto-forward from another address into SingleSign Mail. We'll update this page when import and forwarding launch.
