Deleting an organization

Deleting an organization removes it from SingleSign for everyone, at once, with no restore window. Only the Owner (the super admin) can do it, and the console makes sure nothing that belongs to somebody else goes with it by accident.

Deleting an organization is not the same as deleting your SingleSign account — that closes your own identity and your personal mailbox, and it lives in your account under Deleting your account.

Before you reach for it: if the goal is to stop mail for a while, suspend the domain; if it's about one person, suspend, transfer or delete their mailbox; if it's about you, transfer your own mailbox and hand ownership to someone else. All three are in Domains and DNS records and Company mailboxes.

Where

At the bottom of the organization console, the Owner sees the "Danger zone" — "Deleting Acme Inc. cannot be undone — only its owner can do it." The card spells out the consequences:

Deletes Acme Inc. for everyone: every company mailbox (yours included) is purged right away — no 20-day restore — its domains are disconnected, members lose their @acme.com address, and the organization disappears from SingleSign. Personal @singlesign.com mail is untouched.

Click "Delete organization", then confirm — the dialog asks you to type the organization's name exactly before "Delete organization" is enabled.

What has to happen first

The deletion is refused, with the reason and a link to where to fix it, while:

  • Other members' company mailboxes are still live. "Company mailboxes still belong to other members — delete or transfer them from the Mailboxes section first." Any mailbox of another member that is active, or suspended without being deleted (a plain suspension, or an ended membership still waiting for a decision), blocks it. Mailboxes already deleted and waiting out their 20-day window don't block — they're purged with the organization. Your own mailbox never blocks: going with the organization is your explicit choice.
  • Developer apps still belong to the organization. "Developer apps still belong to this organization — transfer or delete them in the developer portal first." The link opens the developer portal on singlesign.com.

Anyone who isn't the Owner sees "Only the organization owner can delete it."

What is purged immediately

Once confirmed, in this order:

  1. The organization itself is deleted on singlesign.com — it disappears from every member's Account → Organizations.
  2. Every company mailbox in the organization — yours included — is purged now: messages, attachments, files and documents, calendar, app passwords, sessions, and the addresses. There is no 20-day window here.
  3. Every domain is disconnected from SingleSign, with its system addresses. Your DNS records stay at your provider — remove them there, or point them at your next provider.
  4. Everything else the organization held — memberships, pending invites, admin roles, the audit log — goes with it.

You get a notification in your personal mailbox — "Acme Inc. was deleted" — and if you were working from a company mailbox of the organization, the app returns you to your personal mailbox (or the chooser, if you have none).

What is never touched

  • Personal mailboxes. Every member's @singlesign.com mailbox — mail, files, calendar, phone setup — is exactly as it was.
  • SingleSign accounts. Nobody's account, sign-in or other organizations change. Only the deleted organization's addresses stop working as sign-in aliases.
  • Other organizations you or your members belong to.

Not reversible

Nothing is retained after deletion — there is no restore. If you might need the mail, transfer or export it before you delete, or delete the mailboxes individually first and let the 20-day window run so you can still restore one.
